Blue & Gold star Imogen Allison joins Team England netball squad for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Team Bath’s Imogen Allison has been added to the England Netball squad for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, which start at the end of the month.

Mid-courter Allison, who captained the Haines Watts-sponsored Blue & Gold to a bronze medal during the 2022 Vitality Superleague season, replaces Beth Cobden, who has sadly had to withdraw from the 12-strong Roses squad through injury.

Allison, who has represented England in all age groups, is the third member of Team Bath’s 2022 Superleague squad to be selected for the host nation and defending champions, joining fellow University of Bath graduate Sophie Drakeford-Lewis and Layla Guscoth.

Betsy Creak will represent Wales at the Games, taking place from 29th July to 7th August, and Phumza Maweni is in the South Africa squad, who have been finalising their preparations for Birmingham during a five-day training camp at the University of Bath.

Former Team Bath players selected for the Games include University of Bath Hall of Fame for Sport inductee Stacey Francis-Bayman, Geva Mentor and Eboni Usoro-Brown (England); Fi Toner (Northern Ireland); Claire Maxwell (Scotland); and Khanyisa Chawane, Lenize Potgieter and Zanele Vimbela (South Africa).

Allison’s promotion to the England squad means that 37 athletes who either train, study or studied at the University of Bath have now been selected for the Commonwealth Games, across eight sports and representing seven different countries. Click here for details of who to watch and when.
