Blue & Gold shooting star Betsy Creak named in Welsh Netball squad for internationals against Northern Ireland and Scotland

Team Bath Netball shooter Betsy Creak has been named in the Welsh Netball squad for friendly matches against Northern Ireland and Scotland taking place this weekend.

Creak, who was named as the Blue & Gold’s Most Improved Player of the Year in 2021 after impressing during her first full Superleague season, first caught the eye of Team Bath Head Coach Anna Stembridge while making her Wales debut in 2019.

Wales haven’t played a game since that year due to the Covid pandemic and the weekend of matches in Glasgow, taking place from August 20-22, will provide crucial match practice as they aim to secure qualification for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Also in the Wales squad are Team Bath Toucans duo Lydia Hitchings and Suzy Drane, as well as former Blue & Gold players Kyra Jones, Shona O’Dywer, Leila Thomas, Christina Shaw and Ella Powell-Davies.

Scotland, coached by former Team Bath stars Tamsin Greenway and Sara Francis-Bayman, include Claire Maxwell in their squad and fellow former Blue & Gold player Fi Toner will feature for Northern Ireland in the three days of matches at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
