Serena Guthrie looking to build on consistent performances as Blue & Gold face Surrey Storm and Strathclyde Sirens in Vitality Superleague

Consistency has been the key to Team Bath Netball’s unbeaten start to the 2021 season, according to Serena Guthrie, and she is looking for more of the same going into another Vitality Superleague double header in Wakefield.

The Haines Watts-sponsored Blue & Gold travel to the centralised venue to face Surrey Storm on Sunday (4pm centre-pass) before taking on Strathclyde Sirens on Monday (5.15pm). Both matches will be streamed live by Sky Sports on YouTube – see the links further down this page.

Storm have only won two of their opening seven matches but a number of them have been very closely fought and Australian goal-shooter Karyn Bailey is the second-highest scorer in the league so far this season.

Sirens are currently only outside the top four on goal difference following a fine start to the season, although their four-game unbeaten run was narrowly ended by Leeds Rhinos on their last outing.

Rengen-backed Team Bath go into the matches on the back of five successive victories but Guthrie says they will have to remain at their best to maintain that run, with the England legend impressed by her team-mates’ performances across the court so far this season.

“You can’t afford to go out and just cruise in any game,” said Guthrie, who is part of Team Bath’s three-player leadership group with Kim Borger and Eboni Usoro-Brown. “At the moment it’s about taking it game by game and not getting too far ahead of ourselves.

“A lot of the leads we have built have been through consistent performances and that is the thing we are most pleased with. We are putting in some good hard yards and it is really exciting but it is early days. There are five or six teams challenging for those top four spots and we want to be in there.”
