Aspire, Inspire and Perform – Superleague stars share their knowledge with next generation during Futures Academy Day

Nearly 100 aspiring Team Bath Netball stars got to learn from current Blue & Gold Superleague players and coaches during an inspirational Futures Academy Day at the University of Bath Sports Training Village on Saturday.

Teenage players travelled from the Futures Academies and Hubs across the South West to take part in the event, designed to allow the athletes and coaches to meet and learn from each other.

The day started with a presentation on sports psychology from James Lambdon of the University of Bath before the players moved to the Team Bath Arena courts for practice drills, where they were joined by Superleague squad members and coaching staff who took time out from their 2019 preparations to share their knowledge with the next generation.

Academy Head Coach Lois Rideout said: “The Academy Day is a fantastic opportunity to get all of our Hub players across the South West together to learn knew skills from the Superleague players and coaches.

“It also provides continuing professional development (CPD) for our Perform coaches in the pathway and an opportunity for them to share ideas. It was great to take a step back and watch these fantastic athletes on their journey to become an elite netballer.”

The Team Bath Netball Futures Pathway – supported by Netball South West and Soldi, a construction and development company based in Somerset – was set up in 2017 to allow talented players aged from 14 to 21 to benefit from top-class coaching plus lifestyle and sports science support.

Hubs are based in Bristol, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, with Academies located at the University of Bath and University of Exeter. Click here to find out more.
