Team Bath Netball stars help local schoolchildren enjoy day of sporting fun in partnership with Bath Recreation

Young pupils at Twerton Infant School enjoyed an inspirational day of sporting fun at the University of Bath, thanks to Team Bath Netball and their partners at Bath Recreation Limited.

Around 50 children in School Years 1 and 2 got the chance to run on the indoor sprint track, work on their racquet and ball skills, and made medals to celebrate their sporting achievements.

On hand with advice and encouragement were five members of the Team Bath squad for the 2025 NXT Gen League season – Lucy Button, Scarlett Creasey, Ellie Ervine, Sienna Rutherford and Charlotte Watts. The sessions were delivered by coaches on the Team Bath Tribe youth sports programme who, with the help of the elite netballers, provided a supportive and inspiring day of activity for the youngsters.

Twerton Infants is one of several schools in the city that participates in the Glasshouse Academy Buds Programme, delivered by the Bath Recreation charity, where children receive high-quality PE sessions in such Fundamental Movement Skills as running, jumping, throwing, catching, skipping and hopping.

The Key Stage 1 Community Day was one of a number of enriching projects delivered through the community-focused partnership between Team Bath Netball and Bath Recreation, aimed at opening up and growing the opportunities for young people to engage with positive lifestyles both in Bath and across the South West region.

In addition to the activity day, the Glasshouse Academy programme has also been enjoying access to some of the world-class facilities at the Sports Training Village during the winter months. The indoor facility access has allowed the participants of the programme to continue staying active and engaged despite the wet and cold weather.

Emily Siddy, Netball Manager for Team Bath Netball, said “Days like these are always such a pleasure to host. The school have had a brilliant time and our players have had so much fun working with them across the day. We are so pleased we are able to continue to offer experiences like this to our local community and hope that we have left the children who joined us today with some wonderful memories and motivation to stay active or try something new.

“Our partnership with Bath Recreation gives us space to merge our elite sporting aspirations with community engagement, and we are grateful for the opportunities that the partnership has opened up for us as we continue to navigate the next chapter for Team Bath Netball.”
