Blue & Gold’s Ella Williams helps Team England win Trinbago 2023 bronze as netball makes its Commonwealth Youth Games debut
Team Bath NPL player Ella Williams helped Team England bag a brilliant bronze when netball made its long-awaited debut at the Commonwealth Youth Games on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago.
The goal-attack, who captained the Blue & Gold’s U19 squad this season, helped England secure a 34-29 victory over Scotland in the third-placed play-off of the competition, played in a Fast5 format.
England also beat St Vincent and the Grenadines 42-14 and Botswana 47-8, with their only defeats coming against the eventual finalists – 40-30 to silver-medallists South Africa in their opening group match and 44-25 to Australia in the semi-finals.
Team England won medals in each sport they participated in as they finished with 49 overall, enough for second in the table.
Williams, who was vice-captain of the England team, is one of five Team Bath age-group players invited to attend a Roses Academy Selection camp from Wednesday 30th August to Friday 1st September ahead of the 2023-24 season. Also invited are Sascha Dale, Sopé Ilelaboye, Lily Rutland and Ashleigh Brown.
Team Bath Netball are inviting talented young netballers from the South West of England to trial for their U17, U19 and U21 squads for the 2023-24 campaign, as well as their Futures, Senior and Junior Player Development Programme (PDP) squads.
All of the trials will be taking place at the Team Bath Sports Training Village in September and expressions of interest are now being accepted. Click here for more details.
