Blue & Gold stars among England Netball team honoured at 2018 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards
It was a memorable night for Team Bath Netball’s Eboni Usoro-Brown and Serena Guthrie as they were part of the England Netball squad honoured as Team of the Year at the 2018 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
The Roses’ historic last-second winner in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games final against Australia was also named as Greatest Sporting Moment, a new category voted for by the public.
Usoro-Brown and Guthrie were joined on stage at the Birmingham NEC by their England team-mates, including former Team Bath players Ama Agbeze, Geva Mentor and Kadeen Corbin, who was with the Blue & Gold when the Roses won the title in April.
The annual celebration of sport saw double Winter Olympic Champion Lizzy Yarnold, a member of the hugely-successful British Skeleton squad based at the University of Bath, named on a six-strong shortlist for the main Sports Personality of the Year award.
Yarnold, whose second women’s gold was one of three medals won by British Skeleton athletes at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, was joined on an outstanding shortlist by sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, England cricketer Jimmy Anderson, World Cup Golden Boot winner Harry Kane, F1 champion Lewis Hamilton and Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas, who claimed the award.
