Blue and Gold’s place in Vitality Superleague semi-finals confirmed after Mavericks defeat

Team Bath Netball’s place in the 2018 Vitality Netball Superleague semi-finals has been confirmed after benecosMavericks were beaten in their final game of the season by UWS Sirens.

Mavericks went into Thursday’s game in Glasgow needing to win to draw level on points with the fourth-placed Blue and Gold, who travel to Manchester Thunder on Saturday (5pm centre-pass).

A thrilling encounter saw Mavericks leading 25-24 at half-time but a third-quarter surge from Sirens saw them open up a 39-35 advantage. Mavericks got back to within a goal in the final stages but Sirens held on to record a 49-47 victory.

That means that Sitec-sponsored Team Bath are guaranteed to finish fourth and will join Wasps Netball, Loughborough Lightning and Thunder in the semi-finals. Those matches will be played on Saturday, June 30, with the Blue and Gold – barring a freak set of results – visiting Wasps at 5.45pm.
