“Masses of potential” being nurtured by Team Bath Netball as 90 talented youngsters are named in age-group squads for 2024-25

Ninety young netballers from across the South West of England have today been named in Team Bath Netball’s talent-packed age-group squads for the 2024-25 season.

The U17s and U19s will compete on the national NPL (Netball Performance League) stage, with both their campaigns starting on Saturday 23rd November with home matches against Loughborough Lightning at Chellaram Sports Complex in Bristol.

There is no U21 NPL competition this season, following the formation of the NXT Gen League for U23s, but players in that age group will still have top-level training and playing opportunities at Team Bath thanks to an U21 Player Development Programme (PDP).

It is one of three PDPs, along with a Senior PDP for U18s and Junior PDP for U16s, aimed at supporting a wider group of athletes as part of the Team Bath Performance Pathway.

Natalie Roddy, Team Bath Netball’s Academy Head Coach, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the development of so many incredible young netballers and excited to see what they can achieve during the season and years ahead.

“Both the U17s and U19s have got masses of potential and real talent. The U17s are still young and growing, they are an exciting group and we will be looking for development as individuals and as a team, while the U19s could be pushing for a top-two finish, I really believe they are that good.

“The PDP squads complement our NPL and NXT Gen League programmes, and really demonstrate the amount of talent within the South West of England. Several players from the 2023-24 Junior and Senior PDPs are now in our NPL squads, which shows the importance of keeping that talent pool within the sport and exposing them to high-quality training and match-play.

“You can feel from the vibe in training that we have athletes who want to be part of the new journey we are taking as a club, who believe in what Team Bath is about and want to be a part of it. We are fortunate to have such great coaches as well – their calibre, quality and belief in what we are doing makes our programme so strong.”

Team Bath’s U19s, coached by Holly Duerden and Scarlett Smith, features four members of last season’s squad among their 18-strong roster – Ashleigh Browne, Alice Clark, Lily Rutland and Neve Marsden. The latter is one of two England Netball Roses Academy players in the squad along with Ane De Wet, who makes the step up after excelling for the U17s last season.

Orla Farrelly, Ruby House, Nell Smith and Wales U19 international Millie White were also members of last season’s impressive U17 squad and Isabella Lofthouse was part of the 2023-24 Junior PDP, while University of Bath freshers Alisha Glenn and Gen Pearce are among eight players new to the Team Bath Performance Pathway.

There is a similar mix of new and returning players in the U17 squad, with Imogen Baxter, Abigail Bingham, Rose Bruynseels, Rhianna Gayle and Martha Vujicic providing continuity from last season. Daisie Ball, Gracie Gerrish, Zara Gibson, Matilda Mortimore, Isabelle Moxham, Grace Thomson and Ava Truscott all have Junior PDP experience and there are 10 new faces keen to make their mark under the guidance of coaches Kerry Walsh and Kerri Bradley.

The U19s and U17s both have two matches before Christmas, at home to Lightning on Saturday (1.30pm and 3.30pm respectively) and away to London Pulse on Saturday 21st December.
