Sporting ambassadors help families get active during MJ Church Fun Day

Staff, families and friends of Team Bath’s new partners MJ Church got active during a fabulous Fun Day at the University of Bath Sports Training Village on Saturday.

Hundreds of people of all ages tried their hands at a variety of sports including athletics, badminton, boccia, fencing, judo, tennis and skeleton on the unique outdoor push track.

There were also inflatables, climbing walls and zip wires for have-a-go youngsters to enjoy while their parents enjoyed a barbecue in the marquee.

A number of international athletes helped to oversee the sporting activities including Team Bath judoka Adam Hall, badminton players Angus Pedersen and Hannah Preece, and Bath Sword Club’s Ben Bates and Rhiannon Granville.

Team Bath Netball’s Sam Cook, swimmer Jay Lelliott and tennis ace Eden Richardson were among the MJ Church Sporting Ambassadors also on hand to speak to visitors and encourage them to take part in the many sporting activities.

Rio 2016 Olympian Joe Choong, who competes in modern pentathlon, even joined in the fun himself as he tried out skeleton under the watchful eye of fellow ambassador Jor’dan McIntosh.

“It’s been great to see so many people come along and get active,” said Choong. “MJ Church are really supporting Team Bath with all the funding, so a massive thanks to them and I’m looking forward to working together in the future.”

McIntosh added: “MJ Church are a lovely family company and it’s great to be working with them. It has been great fun today and a really nice vibe.”

Phill Wheeler, Operations Manager for MJ Church, was among those to try out the skeleton and said: “It was very good. It’s been a great day and nice to meet the ambassadors like Jor’dan – she is certainly someone to look out for in the next couple of years.”

Among the families attending were Piers and Paula Rendell with their children, Luca and Isabella. Piers works for Emery’s Building Contractors, who work closely with MJ Church on local construction projects.

“The Family Fun Day is a fabulous idea,” said Paula after trying out fencing. “It’s especially good to see all of the kids getting involved.”

MJ Church, a dynamic business offering a diverse range of services from skip hire and waste collection to multi million-pound civil engineering contracts, became a partner of Team Bath this summer, supporting sport from grass-roots level through to high performance.
