Students and alumni among athletes selected for Glasgow 2014

Students and alumni feature among the 32 athletes with University of Bath links selected to compete at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

And with 50 days to go until the start of the Games, many more Bath athletes are expected to win places at this year’s biggest multi-sport event.

The 32 selected athletes will represent seven different countries and compete in seven sports at the Glasgow Games, which run from 23 July to 3 August.

They include a trio of athletes representing Scotland at a home Games – hurdler Eilidh Child, swimmer Michael Jamieson and judo player Andrew Burns.

Eight University of Bath students have already been selected for the Games. Two of them are also among the 12 University alumni selected, after going on to study for further qualifications after their first degree.

Some 25 of the 32 athletes currently train at the University.

A wide and diverse mix of talented individuals

“It’s great to see so many athletes representing so many different countries in so many sports at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. It demonstrates what a wide and diverse mix of talented individuals we have training at the University,” said Stephen Baddeley, Director of Sport at the University of Bath.

“It’s a reflection of their hard work and I’d like to wish them the very best of luck in their continuing preparations for Glasgow.”
