Strong Team Bath presence in England squad

Five members of Team Bath’s 2013 Netball Superleague winning squad were today (Tuesday) named in the England squad for the forthcoming international series against South Africa.

And a total of 10 members of the 12-strong squad are past or present Team Bath players.

Team Bath’s Pamela Cookey will captain the England team for the Fiat International Netball series, which kicks-off with a fixture at the University of Bath Sports Training Village on Sunday 22 September.Mia Ritchie in action

She is joined by Kadeen Corbin, Stacey Francis, Serena Guthrie and Mia Ritchie from Team Bath’s victorious 2013 Superleague squad.

Vice-captain Sara Bayman, as well as Eboni Beckford Chambers, Sasha Corbin, Lindsay Keable and Geva Mentor are former Team Bath players.

Jess Thirlby, Team Bath’s head coach, said: “I’m incredibly proud that so many current Team Bath players and players who have spent a considerable period of time in Bath feature in the England squad for the series.”

Mia Ritchie said she was excited to make the 12 again. The midcourter has five senior caps under her belt, her first against Barbados at the University of Bath last year.

“It seems a bit surreal, I couldn’t believe it when I found out,” she said. “I’m really excited.”

The 12-strong squad was selected following weekend trials at the University of Bath.

The England v South Africa series begins at the University of Bath with a 1.30pm start on Sunday 22 September before the action moves on to Wembley Arena three days later and the University Arena at Worcester on 27 September. For further details go to www.uniteinred.co.uk

Team Bath won a historic fifth Superleague title from just eight Superleague campaigns when they beat Celtic Dragons 62-56 in the final in May.
