England captain Cookey can’t wait to tackle Storm

England captain Pamela Cookey said she can’t wait to face Surrey Storm in Team Bath’s first game in netball’s Superleague Showdown on Monday night (15 April).

Storm are the only side to beat Team Bath in the Superleague this season, but Team Bath went on to finish at the top the table at the end of Phase One.

The two teams cross swords again in a televised fixture at the University of Bath Sports Training Village on Monday night.

Tickets are on sale for the fixture now, as well as for forthcoming home games against Hertfordshire Mavericks (Thursday 18 April) and Celtic Dragons (Monday 29 April).

And netball fans can take advantage of a joint promotion with Thermae Bath Spa offering a three-hour spa session for the price of a two-hour session for B&NES residents who buy tickets for a home Team Bath Phase Two fixture. Further details are available on the Team Bath website and at the game. Terms and conditions apply.

Cookey is just back from the Caribbean where she captained England to a 3-0 series win over Jamaica, following on from the 3-0 whitewash over Australia earlier this year.

And said she’s determined to ‘right the wrongs’ from that defeat at Surrey.

“They’re the only team to have beaten us this season. That was a bad day in the office for us. I don’t think we’ll see a Team Bath side play like that again,” she said. “I’m looking forward to righting those wrongs and showing what we really can do as a squad.

“I know have got a strong side, but we’ve definitely got a team capable of getting the win. We need to put in the performance on Monday and it will come.

“Our performances have been getting better and better this year and we’re hitting our targets. We’ve still got a lot of games to go and we’re still building,” she added.

“There have been five of us training with the England team in Jamaica and the whole squad will be back together training on Thursday. We’ll be good to go on Monday.”

Cookey said she was delighted to captain England to a 3-0 series win over Jamaica.

“Jamaica are number four in the world and so after our successes against Australia earlier in the year it was great to put together more good results and to gel as a team. The whole squad played really well.

“The Commonwealths next year are our main target, but we’ve always talked about getting the process right and not thinking about the result. We’re definitely in better shape than we have been before.”

Cookey was joined in Jamaica by Kadeen Corbin, Stacey Francis, Serena Guthrie and Mia Ritchie, while Samantha Cook and Yasmin Parsons have just returned from England under-21 duty I Australia.

Three days after the Surrey Storm game, on Thursday 18 April, Team Bath host Hertfordshire Mavericks at the Sports Training Village. And on Monday 29 April Team Bath will entertain Celtic Dragons at the in another televised game.
