Team Bath to host international netball fixture

International netball returns to the University of Bath when England take on Barbados at the Team Bath Arena.

And three Team Bath players – Kadeen Corbin, Gemma Fletcher and Mia Ritchie – have been named in the England squad for the three-match series.

England and Barbados will meet at the Sports Training Village at 7.30pm on Thursday 12 April. It will be the second game of the three-match series, and tickets are on sale now.

It is part of a feast of netball at the University of Bath in March and April that also included Team Bath’s home fixtures in the Fiat Netball Superleague against Surrey Storm on Friday (16 March), Hertfordshire Mavericks on Thursday 29 March and Northern Thunder on Monday 30 April.

England are currently ranked third in the world with Barbados ninth. The series will be the first time that former Team Bath player and assistant coach Anna Mayes, now England’s head coach, has led her side in home internationals.

The series is part of England’s preparations for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 World Championships and England’s 15-strong squad also includes former Team Bath players captain Pamela Cookey, vice-captain Sara Bayman, as well as Sasaha Corbin, Tamsin Greenway and Lindsay Keable.

This series is a platform for England to display to their supporters how the squad is moving forward and challenging old and current ways.”

Team Bath head coach Jess Garland, said: “It’s fantastic that we’re hosting international netball at Team Bath.  It would be great to see some of our current players lining up for England on their home court.”

England also face Barbados in Birmingham on Tuesday 10 April and at Guildford Saturday 14 April.

Team Bath last hosted senior international netball in October 2009, when England took on Australia and New Zealand.
