Team Bath announce young and exciting 2012 Superleague squad

Team Bath has announced a young and exciting squad to contest the 2012 Fiat Netball Superleague.

Half of the 16-strong squad are current University of Bath students and they are joined by three of the University’s graduates.

The squad includes Sports Performance student Kadeen Corbin. The shooter made her England debut in the tour of New Zealand and Australia in October and was a member of the England squad that won the World Netball Series Fast Net competition in Liverpool at the weekend.

Gemma Fletcher also made her senior England debut in Australasia in October and returns to Superleague action for Team Bath, when she becomes the only player to have featured in all seven of Team Bath’s Superleague campaigns.

Asha Tett, a Coach Education and Sports Development graduate who played for Singapore at this year’s World Championships, also returns.

Midcourt dynamo Amanda Trounce, a senior Welsh international and University of Bath Pharmacy graduate, makes a welcome return to Team Bath colours after a season with Celtic Dragons.

She joins a midcourt that can also boast Mia Ritchie and Scarlett Williams, who both impressed in the 2011 campaign, and England under-21 player Yasmin Parsons, who has stepped up from Team Bath’s Netball Talent League squad and is aiming to make the England squad for the 2013 World Youth Championships in Glasgow.

Shooter Kirsty Delves is named in the squad but is currently injured.

University of Bath students Kat Hayes, Katie McGinley, Millie Grey and Becky Watkins all feature in the Team Bath Superleague squad for the first time.

Jess Garland, Team Bath head coach, said the franchise has gone back to its roots with a young and exciting squad for its 2012 campaign.

“Team Bath has a proven track record of developing young and talented players, as was illustrated recently by the fact that eight members of England’s victorious 12-strong World Netball Series squad have played for Team Bath.

“We’re continuing that trend in 2012 with a young team that will develop together as the season progresses.  It’s going to be an exciting season for the Team Bath franchise.

“Eight of the players feature in the University of Bath’s British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) teams so they are used to playing together on a regular basis,” she added. “We also have experience in Gemma Fletcher and Asha Tett, and it’s great to have Amanda Trounce back at Team Bath.”

Team Bath get their 2012 Superleague campaign underway with a trip to Celtic Dragons on Friday 20 January and play their first home game against Northern Thunder on 30 January.
