Team Bath netballers claim bronze at World Championships
Four University of Bath-based netball players featured in England’s triumph over Jamaica at the World Netball Championships in Singapore to claim the bronze medal.
England were unfortunate to lose 49-34 to New Zealand in the semi-final match but came back in style to produce a 70-49 victory over close rivals Jamaica.
University of Bath Business Administration graduate, Pamela Cookey performed well inside the circle to give England an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. By half-time, England had stretched their lead to 34-26.
After the break, the England coach introduced of University of Bath-based GD, Stacey Francis, who performed well and helped England to extend their lead to 52-36 at the end of the third quarter. England maintained their dominance throughout the fourth quarter to secure a repeat of last year’s Commonwealth bronze medal match victory over Jamaica.
Bath-based GD Eboni Beckford-Chambers featured in the semi-final defeat to New Zealand alongside Serena Guthrie at WD.
Team Bath’s Asha Tett also featured for her country of birth and host nation for the tournament Singapore, who were eliminated in the group stage and finished 15th. Tett is a University of Bath Coach Education and Sports Development graduate.
Former Team Bath players Tasmin Greenway, Rachel Dunn and Geva Mentor also played for England at the tournament.
