Asha to play for Singapore at World Champs

University of Bath graduate and Team Bath netballer Asha Tett said she can’t wait to play for Singapore on home soil at her first World Netball Championships next month.

The 25-year-old helped Singapore to the Asian Championships title, again in Singapore in 2005, but hasn’t played for her country of birth since.

The versatile player, who has won the Superleague title three times with Team Bath, is now set to return to Singapore for the World Netball Championships.

“It will be really nice to play in front of a home crowd in such a big competition.  I’m really looking forward to it,” said Asha. “It’s a great opportunity for me.

“I’m flying out at the end of the month and I’m hoping to get a couple practice matches in,” said Asha, who has impressed playing for Team Bath in the Fiat Netball Superleague this season.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing in the Superleague this year,” added Asha, who has featured at goal attack, wing attack and goal shooter this season.

Team Bath are based at the University of Bath, from where Asha graduated with a degree in Coach Education and Sports Development.

Asha grew up in Singapore and lived there till 2004, when she came to the UK to study at the University of Bath. She played in the England team that won silver at the 2005 World Youth Championships in Florida and also played in the for Waikato/Bay of Plenty during a placement year in New Zealand.

Jess Garland, TeamBath head coach, said:  “We’re very proud of Asha and I’d like to congratulate her on her selection to represent Singapore at the World Championships. It’s a testament to her positive attitude.  She’s now reaping the benefit of a good season on court with Team Bath by taking her playing attributes on to the international stage once more. We wish her well.”

Four Team Bath players will feature for England at the World Championships – shooter Pamela Cookey, midcourt player Serena Guthrie and defenders Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Stacey Francis. The championships run from 3-10 July.
