Mixed weekend for Team Bath netballers

Team Bath’s netballers won one and lost one in their double-header weekend in the Fiat Netball Superleague to remain fourth in the table.

The reigning Superleague champions ran out 57-48 winners at Surrey Storm on Saturday, making the most of their possession to outscore Storm in each of the four quarters.

Team Bath head coach Jess Garland was pleased overall. “The team focused on what they needed to and in the process delivered a better quality display,” she said. “I’m also happy that we won all four quarters and that the team produced a more cohesive performance.”

But Team Bath came unstuck yesterday (Sunday) going down by 52 goals to 50 at Loughborough Lightning. Frustratingly it was the third time this season in which four-time Superleague champions Team Bath have lost a game by two goals or less.

The scores were level at 37 goals a-piece going into the final quarter, but Loughborough went ahead and held on to secure a narrow victory.

Garland said: “We were unable to reproduce the performance against Surrey and all credit to Loughborough, they were the better team today.”

Team Bath are without a game this weekend and travel to Wales to take on Celtic Dragons in their next fixture on Friday 8 April before hosting Team Northumbria at the Sports Training Village on Sunday 10 April. The pre-match entertainment gets underway at 3.15pm.

They need to secure a top-four finish in the regular season to earn a place in the end of season play-offs.
