Team Bath prepare to build on opening Superleague win

Team Bath’s netballers aim to build on their opening Fiat Superleague victory with back-to-back home games at the Sports Training Village.

The reigning Superleague champions ran out comfortable 59-26 winners at Team Northumbria on Saturday (29 January).

They aim to follow up that victory in home games at the University of Bath against Celtic Dragons on Thursday (3 February) and Loughborough Lightning on Monday (7 February).

Team Bath, the four-times Superleague champions, tried out some new combinations at the start of Saturday’s game and then went on to outscore the home team 4-14 and 3-21 in the final two quarters to run away with the game.

Head coach Jess Garland said: “It was a building performance and we made lots of changes, but it was still quite encouraging.

“We got more efficient with the possession we gained off them as the game went on and it was good to get a decent win under our belts in our opening game.”

Saturday’s  game saw Katy Rose make her Team Bath Superleague debut after returning to the University of Bath-based set-up.

Thursday’s game against Celtic Dragons will see the return to Bath of University of Bath Pharmacy graduate Amanda Trounce, who is now playing for Dragons side as part of Wales’ preparations for the World Championships.

Garland said: “We won’t under estimate Celtic Dragons or Loughborough. They played a very close game against each other recently and Loughborough had a big win against Glasgow Wildcats.”

The entertainment for both the Celtic Dragons and Loughborough Lightning contests gets underway at 6.45pm with the matches themselves beginning 45 minutes later.
